There’s something special about seaside motorhome nights — and this trip delivered exactly that. Our latest Hymer adventure took us to Sandsend, before rolling a little further along the coast to Marine Parade in Saltburn-by-the-Sea, where we parked up for an unforgettable couple of nights of wild camping right by the sea.
From the moment we arrived, it felt like one of those stops — the kind that reminds you why you own a motorhome in the first place.

Coastal Cruising & Choosing the Spot
After a relaxed drive through North Yorkshire, we spent time around Whitby and Sandsend soaking up the coastal atmosphere before heading to Saltburn. Marine Parade was already dotted with motorhomes, all lined up respectfully along the seafront — a reassuring sign you’re in a well-known and accepted overnight stop.

We found a spot with uninterrupted sea views, level ground, and plenty of space. No hookups, no facilities — just the sound of the waves, fresh sea air, and a front-row seat to the North Sea.
This is exactly where the 1991 Hymer B564 comes into its own.
Off-Grid Comfort with a Sea View
With the engine off and the handbrake on, it was time to settle in. Thanks to our solar panels, the leisure battery kept everything ticking along nicely — lights, TV, charging phones — all without electric hookup.

We swung open the habitation door and were greeted by that view: grass, cliffs, and endless blue stretching out in front of us. Dinner was enjoyed inside the Hymer with the door wide open, plates on the table, glasses poured, and the sea just a few steps away.
It felt peaceful, safe, and surprisingly social, with other motorhomers nearby all quietly enjoying the same simple luxury.

Evening Walks & Seaside Pubs
One of the joys of this stop is how walkable everything is. From Marine Parade, it’s an easy stroll along the seafront towards Saltburn’s pubs, cafes, and promenades. We headed out for a gentle walk as the light softened, watching the sky change colour over the water before heading back to the Hymer for a calm, cosy evening.
Back inside, the Hymer proved once again how well thought-out these classic A-class motorhomes are — warm when needed, well-ventilated thanks to the roof vents and skylights, and perfectly set up for slow evenings off-grid.
A Quiet Night & Slow Morning
The night itself was wonderfully quiet. Despite being roadside, traffic was minimal and the atmosphere felt calm and respectful. Waking up to the sea the next morning never gets old — kettle on, door open, fresh air pouring in.

We took our time, enjoying a slow breakfast and one last look out to sea before packing up and heading home, already talking about when we’d be back.
Why Saltburn Marine Parade Works So Well for Motorhomes
This stop ticked all the right boxes:
- ✅ Stunning sea views
- ✅ Popular and accepted overnight motorhome stop
- ✅ Flat parking and easy access
- ✅ Walkable to pubs and coastal paths
- ✅ Feels safe, social, and relaxed
It’s a brilliant example of how motorhome travel doesn’t always need campsites or hookups to feel comfortable — sometimes all you need is a good spot and a view.

Final Thoughts
Trips like this are exactly why we love travelling in our Hymer B564. No rush, no bookings, just the freedom to follow the coast, park up somewhere special, and let the evening unfold naturally.
Sandsend and Saltburn delivered big on scenery, calm vibes, and that unbeatable feeling of being off-grid by the sea — and it’s firmly on our list of places we’ll return to.
