Our second Hymer adventure started with a simple plan: drive to Scarborough for fish and chips by the sea and see where we ended up afterwards. No fixed route, no strict schedule – just the kind of trip this whole campervan lifestyle is all about.
The drive over was easy and relaxed, rolling through North Yorkshire with the familiar feeling that we’re starting to get more confident behind the wheel of the Hymer. Scarborough felt like the perfect stop – classic seaside vibes, salty air, and that unbeatable combination of a proper chippy tea with a view.

We parked up overlooking the sea and enjoyed our fish and chips inside the Hymer, watching the light fade over the water through the window. It’s moments like that when you really appreciate having your own little home on wheels – warm, comfortable, and with the best seat in the house.
Once we’d had our coastal fix, we decided to head inland and try something new: our first proper Brit Stops experience. We made our way to East Ayton, where we’d found a welcoming pub called the Denison Arms.
The Brit Stops setup is brilliant. The idea is simple – you can park up in their car park and stay overnight for free, with no obligation to buy food or drinks. It’s all about supporting local businesses and having safe, relaxed places to stop for the night. We did nip into the pub for a pint anyway, just to say thanks and soak up a bit of the atmosphere.

We parked up in a quiet corner of the car park, away from the road, and settled in for the evening. No electric hook-up, no crowds, just us, the van, and a peaceful off-grid night. The solar kept everything ticking over, the fridge stayed cold, and we spent the evening unwinding inside the Hymer, amazed at how comfortable and calm it all felt.
The next morning was slow and unhurried – exactly how weekends should be. We took our time packing up and then meandered back home through the Yorkshire countryside, passing fields, stone walls, and sleepy villages.

It wasn’t a long trip, and it wasn’t far from home – but it didn’t need to be. Between a sea view supper and a quiet pub stop under the stars, it felt like another small reminder of why we fell in love with this way of travelling in the first place. Sometimes the best adventures are the simple ones.
