The Bica Funicular has been operating since 1892 and was classified as a National Monument in 2002. It is one of Lisbon’s most photographed locations, a popular tourist attraction, and an integral part of local life.
The system uses two streetcars connected by steel cables, where one descending helps pull the other uphill. The tram line connects the São Paulo street near the Tagus riverfront to the Calçada do Combro/Rua do Loreto.
